While this may seem like a great concept, taking children on a fishing holiday will quickly get bland and somewhat inconvenient with a couple hours in as they will get bored quickly. Why Most Holidays Don’t Work For Families

Here is what we have learned. Fishing is more fun if there is some action to the trip, as children lose interest in waiting for a fishing to catch. Most the time this is the case, with waiting being the main part of the trip as during the holidays and looking for something else to do. Fishing also, is not fun if they are waiting on a do nothing, which is why being realistic with what children are attempting to catch is important.

The Broads is nice to spend time fishing on a hired boat. If you get bored of fishing, you can take a cruise. It is a good activity for younger kids to help steer to new fishing spots. You catch perch and pike and something daily. Non-fishing family members can relax at nice pubs along the water.

Fishing lodges in the lakes of the Scotland are a good place to visit with older kids. The lodges are family friendly and even provided with a boat for fishing. You can catch pike and trout too. If the fishing is slow, the nice scenery will keep you occupied. Just make sure to avoid the midge season in the summer.

Interseting for Kids

You want fish that bite a lot and raquires uncomplicated tactics, so you don’t need expensive gear.

Mackerel are great kids’ fish to catch. Throughout summer, kids can take simple rods and feathers to any pier on the south coast and catch dozens. They can even cook the fish themselves for tea, which adds to the excitement.

Roach and rudd are great for fishing on lakes. They bite often and kids can catch over twenty in an afternoon, and small fish are easier for children. Linear Fisheries is great, as they allow kids to fish for silvers while the adults carp fish on the big lakes.

Trout at stocked fisheries can be a nice treat. Great locations are Packington Somers Warwickshire and Bellbrook Valley Devon, which both have small lakes where kids will catch trout for sure. While it is a bit pricier than the coarse fishing, you are almost guaranteed to catch fish.

What to Bring Aside from Fishing Gear

Since even the most enthusiastic young anglers will want some breaks, be sure to bring along some form of entertainment for downtime. Activities like bikes, football, and swimming gear are great (especially if there is a pool).

Fishing sessions should be kept short, especially for younger kids. Two hours is usually a good limit, and if they’re still engaged you can always go back out later.

Always be sure to bring snacks as when children are bored, they can become miserable. Fishing gives you a good premise to eat snacks like crisps and biscuits all day, which can partially make up for the relative lack of activity.

Holidays work best when fishing is optional rather than mandatory. Pick locations with contingency plans, aim for species that have active feeding patterns, and consider that kids may not have the same enthusiasm for sitting quietly.
